The Eribé Westray Cardigan St. Kilda pays tribute to one of Scotland’s most mysterious places. Crafted from 100% Shetland wool, this cardigan provides warmth, durability, and authenticity. The rich Fair Isle patterns combine deep greens, warm yellows, and earthy shades, reflecting the wild character of these islands.
The name St. Kilda refers to the abandoned island group west of the Outer Hebrides, famous for its dramatic cliffs, seabird colonies, and the centuries-old stories of its former inhabitants. Like the archipelago itself, this cardigan radiates strength, mystery, and a deep connection with nature.
The horn buttons underline the artisanal spirit, making the cardigan a timeless classic. The Westray Cardigan St. Kilda can be worn casually with jeans or styled elegantly for a refined look. More than a piece of knitwear, it carries the warmth and heritage of Scotland.
The story behind the Eribé Westray
When Rosemary Eribé founded her knitwear label in the Scottish Borders in 1986, she had a clear mission: to preserve Scotland’s rich knitting traditions while leading them into the future.
The Westray Cardigan is perhaps the purest example of this vision. Rosemary drew inspiration from the island community of Westray, one of the northernmost Orkney islands. This remote place represents centuries of knitting heritage: rugged landscapes, warm Shetland wool, and patterns passed down through generations.
With the Westray, Rosemary wanted to pay tribute to that tradition. She chose 100% Shetland wool – strong, warm, and enduring – just as the islanders wore to withstand the harsh winds of the North Sea. The patterns are rich and intricate, a tribute to the Fair Isle technique, but with a modern fit and colours designed for today’s woman.
The horn buttons were deliberately chosen: they emphasise the artisanal spirit and recall a time when clothing was made entirely from natural materials.
For Rosemary, the Westray is not merely fashion, but a bridge between past and future. This cardigan preserves the stories of Scottish communities and shares them with a new audience worldwide. Wearing a Westray means carrying a piece of history and craftsmanship – a true homage to Scotland and its people.
